Nurse Kishore Baijoonauth is disbarred after pleading guilty to a charge of negligence in care, according to a judgment of the disciplinary council of the Order of Nurses of Quebec rendered on 1uh last March.

On June 14, 2022, the patient, whose identity is protected, who suffered from heart problems, presented to the Lakeshore Hospital in Pointe-Claire to be evaluated in cardiology. “We don’t listen to him”

On June 16, at 12:35 a.m., the nurse, Mr. Baijoonauth, noted that the patient had “no chest pain”. Shortly afterwards, the patient rang the bell and complained of pain to a healthcare worker.

From 1 a.m., the man tried several times to contact his partner by telephone. He then called his son-in-law. The patient stated that he had “pain in his chest, arm and jaw, that he had informed the staff, but that they did not listen to him”, specifies the judgment.

At 1:17 a.m., the patient managed to contact his partner and told her of his pain. However, he refused to allow her to come to his bedside. Between 1:25 a.m. and 1:37 a.m., he tried to call her back 12 times.

A “contradictory” note

However, at 1:30 a.m., the nurse notes in the file that the patient is “alert” and that he has “no chest pain or palpitations.”

“This note is contradictory with the number of calls made by Mr. (…) and the content of his exchanges with his relatives,” indicates the Council.

During the night, the patient rang four times. At 2:21 a.m., the patient told his companion “that he is sweating, that he feels pain in his hands and that he is ringing the bell, but that no one is coming,” we read. Her partner suggested she scream for help, according to the document.

When he was questioned, Mr. Baijoonauth took his vital signs and gave him Tylenol. According to the trustee, the nurse did not inform the doctor of the change in the patient's condition.

At 2:38 a.m., his heart rate was abnormal and he was unresponsive. Death was pronounced at 3:29 a.m.

Nurse Kishore Baijoonauth had no disciplinary history. According to his lawyer, he expressed remorse. Originally from Mauritius, the man had worked in Quebec since 2020, but had 16 years of experience as a nurse in his country.
